Cravings....wait, what?!

I've heard people talk about post-pregnancy cravings. I thought it was some kind of cruel joke. Like, seriously...? The cravings can continue?? Whether they're induced due to breastfeeding or whatever--it's true. They exist. Well, for me anyway.

I'm gonna be honest here...and well, tell you the things that for some odd reason, I've enjoyed since having a baby. Totally, completely, unhealthy. I realize this. [Hence the body image post from last week, eh?]

And the honesty of my posts is why you love me. I'm just reminding you of this before you shake your head in disgust at my food list. Mmkay?

In no particular order....
[Oh, and you may see a theme....these are all basically kid foods....no joke. You'll see. Just send me back to Elementary School, why don't ya.]

1. Dr. Pepper
One a day. It was my vice. Or whatever. I just love the taste of this soda--freezing cold, and with a...[yep, you guessed it], straw. I told Declan to NOT allow me to purchase anymore. Sad. But, necessary.

2. String Cheese
Weird, huh? What am I, like, 5 years old? I don't know what it is...but I can grab one quick and it seems to just tie me over for a few minutes hours.

3. Freeze Pops
With the heat...I love. Love. These are my most favorite night-time snack. For the record, the colors pictured are my l.e.a.s.t. favorite, but when I went to grab some to take a picture, they were the only ones ::ahem:: left in the freezer. I wonder why...

4. Cool Ranch Doritos
I'm hanging my head in shame. Because, I KNOW. Fatty McFatty, right? I will tell you, honestly, though...I never sit there with the bag and just 'snack' on them. Truly. I prefer them as a side to a sandwich at lunch. But, that makes it no better.

5. Fruit Snacks
Hi, my name is Katie and I eat Disney fruit snacks.
I'm embarrassed.

6. Coffee
Hallelujah...finally something I don't feel that stupid about admitting. I'm not sure if it's a craving, or more of a NEED to cover up my exhaustion. Either way, thanks to my sweet man, it's always brewed and ready for me when we come down in the morning.

Sigh.

Well there you have it. The first step is admitting, right? The good news is, I've pretty much given up on these things as of now (except coffee...I will NOT...)--but, those were the things I found myself craving the last 6'ish weeks.

Happy Tuesday!

  2. I love fruit snacks...but the cheap store brand kind is my favorite. Dr. Pepper was my craving prepregnancy and now I love Coke. I can't wait to see what I want after this kid pops out!

  3. I love string cheese; it's one of my go-to snacks to keep in the fridge at work.

I had to smile at the freeze pops. When we were in Charleston on Sunday, and the temp was 108 plus humidity, there were hawkers walking through the market selling freeze pops for $1 a piece. And they were selling.

  6. LOL.... too funny.

I'm not sure if this makes you feel better, but I LOVE freezey pops and fruit snacks (and snow cones). I'm neither pregnant nor breastfeeding. I just love them.

My favorite fruit snacks are the Smiley Faces from Walmart. Best. fruit. snacks. in. the. world.

  7. My cravings have been sweets and it is killing me. While pregnant I do so well with drinking water and eating pretty good why can't I do it all the time. I have no cravings while pregnant and then after it all goes down hill, talk about annoying!

  8. Ha! No worries, you do need many extra calories since you're a nursing mama! I was so sick while I was pregnant, that when I had my daughter I finally felt like eating for the first time in...nine months! My breastfeeding "cravings" were much worse than during pregnancy! Good luck cutting that all out!

  9. I admit - I love fruit snacks too. They make lunch so much more fun! But my favorite are the Scooby Doo version. I don't know why, but they just taste so much better than the rest. :)

  13. I crave Dr. P, cereal, and ice cream all the time now. I think I'm in trouble when I do venture to babyland.

And P.S. my parents have those same countertops (which I may have already told you, in which case, just ignore me!!).

  18. I crave cool ranch doritos now and I'm not and have not been pregnant ever! I just thought that it was common for everyone because they're soooo good! haha! Luckily we don't buy chips :( Probably because they are my weakness.

  19. Oh I love Cool Ranch Doritos but I'm the type of gal that will sit there and eat the whole bag! Ha!

Don't feel too bad about the Dr. P....about every morning I go to McDonald's and order a large Diet Dr. Pepper...I'm sure it's just as bad! :)

  20. We used to buy cheese sticks in bulk at Costco...I actually think they're a great snack option!!

And I will be more than happy to eat all your green freeze pops...call me crazy but lime is my favorite flavor!

  21. Oh man! I crave some of those too! I'm pregnant now and it's hard to resist!! I love Doritos, fruit snacks and freeze pops!! Yum!

  23. I hear ya! I ate fruit snackes every day I was pregnant- they were the perfct snack to eat anywhere... I carried them in my purse! Ever since having Emery i've been addicted to granola bars (which aren't totally unhealthy until you consider im eating the chocolate chip ones and the amount of them I eat in a day!) and milkshakes... like, need them every day! Sonic has had the buy one get one free and it's been my downfall! Definitely, not helping the postpartum belly! Oh well, I use the excuse of having a newborn and being sleep-debrived... it works for now!

  24. Six and a half years after my first baby and I still crave Cool Ranch. Oh, Cool Ranch. I could write rapturous platitudes to the virtues of Cool Ranch Doritos, but I won't.

And don't get me started on coffee. I'm Italian. Coffee and wine are the breath of life in my family. I have three children. Coffee allows those three children to stay alive.

So yeah. I get it. I SO get it.

  28. Umm.. I love string cheese, fruit snacks, and cool ranch doritos. I could eat them all the time, and I've never been pregnant. I guess I've just been eating so much kid-food since moving on my own that I'm not longer very ashamed of it.

  30. what does it say about me that I'm 24, with NO BABIES IN SIGHT, and all of the above are currently in my kitchen??

  31. I knew we were soul mates.

Cool Ranch Doritos are my HUGE SECRET ADDICTION. I have no control, and I can eat bags of them when they are in my presence!

  32. YOU ARE NOT ALONE!!!! I LOVE freezie pops! And btw, orange and green are MY least fav, too! My fav is blue, but I used to not like it when I was a kid.

But what I really love to do...and this should totally make you feel less weird about your vices... is pour Dr. Pepper (or root beer, or reg coke) into ice trays in the freezer. I don't really ever drink soda, so it's kind of the best of both worlds... frozen Dr. Pepper! WHAT?!! You should totally try it!

I'm also obsessed with fruit snacks, too. Especially the shark snacks! The best days ever are when I get the white ones!

    Cute post :)
