The chaos that is being creative

I haven't been teaching now since April 30th. So, naturally--I am itching for a creative outlet. I used to get my hands dirty every single day with classfull's of kids making some fantastic art. It fulfilled the creative urge inside me--no, it overflowed it. So, I knew with this big break and taking the year off that I would have to find something else as a creative outlet.

I'm pretty sure I found it.

As my kitchen table is evidence of the madness:

[Funny thing is, I have an entire empty room that I CAN USE as a craft/sewing room for me--yet-it sits untouched.]
Fabric flowers were my interest. Having a little girl of my own--I thought, "Why not make her headbands MYSELF?"-I figured I most certainly could figure that out. So, with a little exploring, and playing with fabric and such--I was able to create some fun fabric flowers.

In the process I realized adults would like these too...(like myself)...and I started making some with just alligator clips on the back. This way, it gives you the option of clipping it onto an existing heaband for a baby/child OR for you. You could even just clip back right into your hair using the alligator clip. I love that look.

My sister and I collect old, sometimes vintage jewelry. Think: earrings with CLIPS. Ewww, right? But the great thing about them is they are incredibly unique--and pop the clip off and they make a CUTE centerpiece. Very 'one of a kind', and no one else is bound to have a clip or headband like it.

[The alligator clips make it possible to even attach to crocheted kids hat--which I LOVE (and do for Emeline) to make the hat look different every time, like so.]

Or I've just been making pre-measured baby headbands--which, I think are so much fun, because obviously I LOVE my girl in a headband. Oh, you didn't know that? You've been living under a ROCK. ;)

So, my friends...what do you think? Should I open an Etsy shop? The stay-at-home-mom resourceful side of me says "HECK YES" because any little bit of extra income would be nice.

For now, I'm gonna keep plugging away at building up my 'stock'---but, a little shop could definitely be in my future.

I may try out a blog-sale first to see if there's interest at all, would you be interested?

Do tell.

Happy Friday, loves!

  1. Hey, my sister-in-law is due with my niece August 16th, and I would so love to get a couple of those headbands made for her. Can you please connect with me? You should definitely go for it and open up an etsy shop!!! :)

  2. Ummmm...yes, please.

I LOVE those headbands! I would totally rock them. I have super short hair (think Halle Berry-short) and I can actually wear them with this style. I just rarely find cute ones in my town and I am not...crafty...enough to make them myself.

PLEASE open a shop or open up sales on your blog.

    :-)

  6. You should most definitely open an Etsy shop!!

Where do you find your fabrics? A lot of people tell me Wal-Mart, but we have 5 different WM's around and NONE of them have the fabric sections! (I know, it's a crime, right?!) We also don't have a Hobby Lobby (another crime?!). There are so many great crafts to do with fabrics, but I can't figure out where to get any!

While I don't have much use for flowered headbands or clips right now (please someday let me have a little girl!), have you ever thought about selling some paintings as well?

The owl and tree in Emeline's room are AWESOME. I would totally pay to have something painted on canvas by you!
