You may have won the battle, but I won the War

Yesterday was seriously such a fun day and a great anniversary. Having Declan home in the afternoon in the middle of the work week was such a nice change of pace around here. When he trudged up the steps around 1pm, he came bearing three, yes, THREE bouquets of roses for me. Red, pink and peach. Nothing makes me happier then having fresh flowers in my house. I'm not kidding. I seriously LOVE.

After eating some lunch at one of our favorite spots, we made our way to the beautiful gardens of Longwood, where there is over 1,000 acres of plants, gorgeous flowers, fountains and more.

It was lovely.

And HOT.

Did I mention it was hot? Because it it was. In fact, so much so that I felt like a big, dumb 'ole idiot for not bringing water along with us. I drank out of water fountains for the first time since...like, 2nd grade? [Does that surprise you since I teach elementary school?] For reals. I even contemplated the cleanliness of them and whether or not the water that touches your lips but does not go IN your mouth gets re-filtered again, or does it go into the next persons mouth? Something to think about, hmm? [And seriously, this is the thought-provoking kind of conversation we had.]

After being a sweaty ball of...well, sweat...we headed home to get showered and dressed to go out for our date night. Alone! With no baby!

My mom met us at home and graciously watched our sweet girl while we got to go out and celebrate 3 years of married life.

We had such a delicious dinner. Of course, thanks to my trusty iPhone...I was able to document a few bits here and there.

My view and his view:

During dinner we had lots of good conversation as usual, and shockingly, I'm pretty sure we didn't even talk about the baby once. Okay, maybe once..or twice (or three times), but still.

We even enjoyed some delicious beverage's...a few perhaps. My drink of choice was Leinenkugel. It's true, I'd choose a good beer over a mixed drink any day. I cannot lie. I'm classy like that.

When Declan finished off his glass, he slammed it down next to mine and proclaimed, "You may have won the battle, but I won the WAR!" I laughed. We're weird like that. Plus, we pretty much make everything a competition. Because? It's fun...and it's all in good humor.

After deciding that dessert just wasn't.happenin' after all that food (salmon, mmm!)...we decided we needed to walk a bit before returning home. And just like our first date night out without the baby, we headed to Marshall's. Classy, I know-right? That's how we roll.

Because now, it's become kind of a funny and necessary (hehe) tradition to take our photo in the underwear section.

...and I kid you not...that while I was taking a much needed potty break, this sign was plastered on the stall in front of me:

The best part is not only that this person obviously COULD NOT spell "plumber" OR" apologize", but that you'd have to run out of the stall...turn the sink ON, and go back into the stall just to FLUSH THE DARN TOILET!

Is this some kind of joke?!!?

I found it amusing to say the least.

But back to business.

Ahem.

So, while in Marshall's we each picked out a few things. But, like the parents (gasp! we're PARENTS!) that we are, even while trying to enjoy our anniversary sans baby, we left with a duckie hooded towel and another PeekaBoo book (my kid is obsessed).

Then we headed home, where it was immediately back to parental reality...bathing baby, feeding baby, reading to baby, swaddle and bed.

But we soaked up every last minute of our anniversary together...saying, "Happy Annivesary Babe" maybe 2930829 times throughout the day...eating the iced sugar cookies I made for him earlier that read, "I am the Luckiest" (our song, by Ben Folds), and loving just the few hours of alone time we got.

It was pretty great.

Happy Thursday!

  5. Water fountains gross me out too. We were at a wedding over the weekend and B got me a glass of water. When I found out it was from a fountain, I literally could not finish it.

Glad you guys had such a good night. Happy Anniversary again!

  11. I think BECAUSE we're teachers, and have seen what happens at water fountains, we don't tend to drink from them.
Our 10th anniversary was in June, and I think we spent it catching up on episodes of Burn Notice. But then, getting mom to watch three kids isn't quite as easy as when we had one.
    Happy anniversary!
