Peaceful Home

I believe in name meanings.

For us, we value the meaning of names. If your name is going to be spoken over you umpteen times a day, it might as well have some good meaning, right?

Emeline (spelled that way) means "Peaceful Home".

There were so many confirmations over and over again to us that this was to be her name. I mean, countless things that happened that I like to call God Moments. For real.

Declan and I have always loved her name. We constantly get the weird looks when people ask her name or the long pause and then ".....well that's unusual." But, we don't care. Partly for that reason is why we decided to keep her name quiet (other than family and close friends) before she was born. We simply didn't need the feedback.

We even had an old pastor visit us after she was born. Declan eagerly told him the meaning behind her name, hoping to get that affirming nod and such. But, instead, he did a little chuckle under his breath & said something to the effect of screaming babies & "ha, yea, that'll be peace, alright" type sarcasm. It was meant to be a joke, but it wasn't very nice.

We weren't naive. We know what new babies bring. And indeed, we got the screaming baby thing every once in a while. Yep, she was a newborn and they all go through those weird phases.

If you ask me, though. She's lived up to her name so far. Girlfriend is peaceful, and that's the number one compliment we get while we're out in public. But, it's more than just that.

When Emeline got dedicated, I felt I got even more revelation about her name meaning. Her 'peaceful home' wasn't our physical home. It was her.

I pray for her daily that she'll have an inner peace & confidence that can only come from knowing her heavenly Father and the love He has for her. Her peaceful home.

Happy Tuesday...

  2. Emeline is a gorgeous name. I've never heard it before but it is just....lovely.

I know we didn't really consider meanings when we picked Caleb. But after looking it up, Caleb means "faithful". That made me smile when I saw that :)

    Happy Tuesday to you friend.

  7. I love her name and its meaning!

We did the same thing about not telling (specific people) about Lily's name for the same reasons--we didn't want the opinions either.

Is her name pronounced "Em-eh-leen" or "Em-eh-line"? I think "leen", but love it either way "line" sounds really Southern and I'm a sucker for that too! ♥

  9. If we met randomly on the street and you told me her name I wouldn't give you the "that's unusual" it is beautiful! I totally get the not telling people before she is born thing though. We are keeping our name choice completely private and people have been so funny about it!

  10. I don't understand why people think it's THAT unusual.

Maybe it's because a girl I went to high school with named her daughter that about 3 months before yours was born. Then again, I didn't think it was unusual when she announced it, either.

Maybe because I'm in the South? Names like Emeline are a little more common?

  12. Name meanings are important to me too--in fact, we nixed our long-picked girl name (Isabella Marie) once I discovered that the middle name meant "Sea of Bitterness". WHA?! I suppose it was meant to be anyway with the craaaazy influx of Isabellas recently.

Anyway, I think Emeline's name is beautiful!

  14. Like you said, you really don't need the feedback. But I'm going to give it to you anyway. ;) That unsolicited advice kinda thing.

I LOVE the name Emeline! :) Like Jess said, it must be a southern thing because I have heard of a couple little girls in this area with that name and I think it is so sweet and has a unique spin on such a classic name. I love unique names, even though we didn't pick one for our boy. Jason and I listen to Ben Folds all the time and there is a song he has called "Emeline" and I always thought it was the neatest name to use in a song.

Anyway, people are rude and just want something to fuss about. People didn't like that I was using my great-grandparents last name as Ethan's middle name either. It's just another matter that people think it is ok to tell you exactly what they think about your children.

  15. I love the full name Emeline. I cannot believe people give you a hard time about, especially with a such a nice meaning.

It's part of the reason I'm so hesitant to share our full girl's name. It's not really that common. Luckily, we're going to call her by her middle name, which is pretty normal, but still...people have such weird opinions.

  16. I never thought it was weird at all! I think it's beautiful.
I believe in name meanings as well. Speaking their name over them is like speaking a blessing over their lives daily.
Noah means "comfort", and he totally lives up to it. :)

  29. I love her name and actually knew an Emmeline growing up. I wanted our son's name to have meaning too but when we finally found a name we both loved and sounded good with our last name, I gave in...so what if "one who thatches roofs" doesn't mean much?!?! But I do wish it had a little more meaning b/c I agree with you that it is nice to have something behind a name besides "we liked it!"

  30. I loved this post! We were the same way when picking out a name for our son. I wanted a name that meant something special to us. Emeline was actually one of the names we had picked out if Brayden was a girl and then my SIL just had twins naming one of them Emmalynn...so guess we won't be using that name now! :(
