After asking for a highchair, I finally resigned to the fact that my child was not going to sit in that thing. She does the whole arch-my-back & whine thing that makes it physically impossible to get her IN the chair to begin with. I should have known.
So I sat her in the booth next to me, and of course, she's happy as a clam.
Fine. I can deal with this.
Then, the next thing you know, I notice that my kid is leaning over the back of booth, peeking her little face over the edges to see the elderly couple sitting behind us.
They spotted her, too.
And the next thing you know, I hear the following conversation.
Couple: "Well, hello! How are you?"
Eme: "Goo!" (good)
She looks back at me all proud-like.
Couple: "What's your name?"
She looks at me, as if it to check & see if it's okay to tell strangers her name and I give her The Nod.
Couple: "What a pretty name!"
Eme: "I pretty!" (omg. I tell her she's pretty too much. haha.)
Couple: "Did Santa bring you presents?"
Eme: "HO! HO! HO!"
And then I died.
How did my child get old enough to TALK and old enough to have a conversation? With strangers? At the diner? Over the edge of the booth?
Wow, just wow.
And in that moment, I realized she is growing up too fast. But she's a pretty cool kid.
